FAM MIRZA / THE STORY
Where he started
effects how he builds.
Before he was onstage speaking about focus and impact, Fam was a boy growing up in the slums of Hyderabad, learning what it meant to go without. His journey from those beginnings to building brands with purpose is why impact has always been the goal.

01 / THE BEGINNING
A small home.
A much bigger future.
A 2021 profile carried by Yahoo Finance recounts Fam’s early years in Hyderabad’s Old City. Born in Qatar, he was raised by his aunt in a crowded home shared with 14 other people. There was care inside those walls, but little material comfort.
The account describes sleeping on the floor and rationing water around deliveries from a water truck. Clean water was not something to take for granted. Years later, the profile connects those experiences to the water projects he supported in India.
That is the beginning of this story—not a business milestone, but an understanding of what a basic need can mean to a family.

02 / A DIFFERENT POSSIBILITY
Opportunity arrived.
Learning came first.

The profile follows Fam’s reunion with his parents and a journey through Qatar and London before settling in Chicago. Leaving the aunt who raised him was part of that transition. A new country opened possibilities, but it also meant starting again.
His father’s message was simple: knowledge and hard work could help him become the person he wanted to be. The article recalls a Packard Bell computer and a daily practice of typing out inspiring quotations. In an interview with Terry Rice, Fam describes that same advice as a catalyst for his entrepreneurial ambition.
Curiosity became practical. In his VoyageLA founder interview, he traces his early work from experimenting with products to jerseys, custom clothing and online retail. He learned how design, culture and digital marketing could turn an idea into something people wanted.
Those experiences became the foundation for Mirza Minds, his product-design and branding practice—and for a career building across different industries rather than staying inside one category.

What a brand can do
beyond the purchase.

With 1:Face, a watch became a way to connect everyday purchases with charitable causes. Different colors represented different needs, and the brand worked with NGOs and charitable partners on projects beyond the product itself.
Fam’s VoyageLA interview describes water projects in India, greenhouses in Africa and support for cancer research in America. He also discusses helping communities learn how to maintain the projects. The aim was not simply to fund something once, but to help it keep working.
Against the childhood account, the clean-water work has a particular resonance. A need he had experienced became a problem his work could help address. The path from those early circumstances to building a cause-based brand is part of the impact story in its own right.

Today, purpose
starts at home, too.
Fam and his wife Keri co-founded Draw Pillows after seeing their daughter’s artwork transformed into a keepsake she could hold. The company turns children’s drawings into custom plush pillows, preserving imagination in a tangible way.
It is a different expression of the same instinct: make something that matters to people. His work today brings together creativity, brand strategy and a human-centered sense of purpose.
Serial entrepreneur, brand architect, and philanthropist.
